Mites

Mites

Not all mites are considered bad. In fact some are predatory, killing mites that would otherwise be feeding on your plants. Be careful when controlling mites chemically. The worst outbreaks occur when predators (including predatory mites) are killed with broad spectrum pesticides.

Red spotted mite

Blast with water. Especially underside of leaves.

In worm farm: Watch worm far for evidence of mite. Screen worm juice before adding to garden. A high mite population is usually an indicator that the farm is too acidic and/or wet. To catch mites, place an upturned rockmelon half or watermelon rind (both of which they love) in the farm overnight. They will gather in large numbers underneath. Rise and repeat until mite numbers are under control.
